Trailer Tuesday: Hide Away & The Dark Knight Rises

Today I bring you Hide Away starring Josh Lucas. This movie looks haunting and sad. I mean, it may not even have a happy ending, people. But I've always liked Josh Lucas and I've also always liked sail boats--at least in theory since I've never been on one. Sailboats hold this lonesome magic for me, meaning they encompass a romantic notion of a place to be alone with the benefit of wind in my hair and the smell of the ocean. At least something like that. I ain't no good at talking romantical-like. I'm not sure what any of my uncharacteristic romantic notions have to do with this trailer, but I hope you see something you like.

This just in, the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises! It's looking good, except for the part that I didn't know Anne Hathaway is playing Catwoman. Hopefully the awesome of the movie in general will outstrip any clunkyness she'll inevitably display. 

Trailer Tuesday: How to Grow a Band & More!

What's that you say? You wish it were Trailer Tuesday? Your wish is granted! But don't say I never gave you nothing.

Below please find a trailer for How to Grow a Band, a documentary that chronicles the evolution of The Punch Brothers, a young bluegrass band headed by Chris Thile. It promises to be a fun and interesting insight to the dynamics of a band and the music biz. (That means business, for all you laymen.)

But since I also gave you a documentary last week, and because you have been good, here is a bonus trailer! I don't know a thing about Jesus Henry Christ except for what I witnessed in the trailer. But since it stars Michael Sheen (Wesley Snipes from 30 Rock) and Toni Collette, I'll give it a whirl.  Plus it looks like a charming and smartly funny film by the lovelies who brought us Little Miss Sunshine.

Last minute entry! I heard about Pina (2011) late last night on Facebook thanks to Christina D. She mentioned the soundtrack and I was curious enough to watch the trailer. It's an homage to German choreographer Pina Bausch. It reminds me so much of this acrobatic, dance, theater show called Psy that I saw in London two years ago. Meaning, it looks incredible. So everyone say thank you to Christina.

Twofer Trailer Tuesday

I got a Twofer happening for you today.

First, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, starring Steve Carell and Kiera Knightly. The trailer is funny and sweet, but we all know how trailers can be tricksy sometimes. I like the idea of an end-of-the-world movie being a comedy. Well, a comedy without zombies, really. I lovey, love, loved Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead, but Seeking a Friend for the End of the World looks a little less blood-soaked. I'm not a fan of Kiera Knightly, yet I'm still willing to give this movie a chance. Also, Steve Carell looks so skinny!

Do you ever have this happen to you? You learn about something old for the first time then about two weeks later it seems to be a hot topic. So it is with me for the television show Dark Shadows. I first heard about it in passing, then radio show This American Life featured a segment about someone attending a Dark Shadows convention, then I heard that Tim Burton had made a movie homage to the show. The television series aired for 5 years starting in 1966. Get this, it was a dark and supernatural, daily soap opera. Yes, a soap opera with a rather large cult following. And, based on the preview, I'm not actually sure this movie will be any good, but I can't help but watch anything Tim Burton produces.

And here, just for kicks, is some sort of recap from the Dark Shadows series. Just before minute 6 is the start of some extra special special effects. 

Trailer Tuesday

Tuesdays will hence forth be known as Trailer Tuesdays. I will post at least one trailer for an upcoming movie that I'm looking forward to. If nothing is catching my eye, I will post a trailer for a previously released movie that I find delightful in some way.

Today I will break the ice with three trailers, which is probably excessive. I mean, I don't want to spoil you, but I do what I want.

First is Boy from Kiwi director Taika Waititi. Boy made its debut at Sundance 2010, but it's finally in limited release in the U.S. (since March 2) thanks to Kickstarter. (Waititi is totally charming in his pitch video.) I wish it were playing in my town.

Pixar's at it again with their new film Brave. I have a wee obsession with the Scottish dialect and even did a presentation on said dialect in college. I'm glad they actually have (some) Scottish people voicing the characters, like Kelly MacDonald and Billy Connolly. Plus, doesn't the main character's animated hair look AWESOME?! The whole film promisses to be visually stunning.

 And finally a movie brought to you by the makers of Coraline, a new claymation called ParaNorman. It looks charming and funny and a little dark: three things that appear in abundance in my movie tastes. Additionally I can't seem to get enough claymation.
